Documentation Project - Evaluate the Competition
Your analysis of the competition for your game is a section to include in your final Documentation project. This section will also be graded separately. For this project, evaluate the competition for your game. What games are similar and what are their audiences? How will your game appeal to similar audiences? What will set your game apart?
Suggested resources
| Trade
magazines from the Gaming area, which usually consist heavily of game
reviews. |
|
| What's currently on the shelves
at Best Buy or Babbages or Blockbuster or Wal-Mart, or other
stores in the area that are selling games in retail outlets. Look at sources
that have added games to an existing store where you wouldn't traditionally
go to make that specific purchase, such as Staples or the grocery store.
When only a few titles are chosen for a small area of a store, which are the
ones chosen and why? Of the stores where you would purposefully go to
buy a game (Best Buy, Babbages), which games are displayed the most
prominently? Which games get the best shelves? |
|
| What's selling at online juggernauts such as Amazon, which has a whole section devoted to Video Games, as well as the online stores for the stores listed above (Babbages, Best Buy or or Blockbuster or Wal-Mart, or any other online store). |
